Program and Services Outline
Mental Health
Exercise has many benefits, not only for your physical health but also your mental health. In your brain, exercise stimulates chemicals that improve your mood and the parts of the brain responsible for memory and learning. It can also get you out in the world, help to reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation, and put you in touch with other people.
If you exercise regularly, it can reduce your stress and symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. The program offered by Carlo will help you to create a tailored exercise routine that you can do at home or gym. He will also be launching Men and Women only Connect Groups in 2018.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating disorder characterized by extreme fatigue or tiredness that doesn’t go away with rest and can’t be explained by an underlying medical condition. CFS can also be referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID).
His aim is for you to achieve self-management and a return to a level of day-to-day normalcy. Every CFS patient is different and program duration may vary but is generally between 5-10 months with consults ranging from 1-2 times a month depending on your needs. With his program you will learn about your condition, self-management skills, how to exercise and improve fitness/energy levels, and creating an action plan to manage your triggers.
Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia (FM), also known as Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a condition with symptoms that include widespread, pervasive and chronic pain and tenderness in the body, and muscle stiffness, often accompanied by fatigue (hence a relationship with ME/CFS), cognitive disturbance/difficulties and emotional distress. Like ME/CFS, symptoms of FM can vary from mild to severe. The program he offers will assist you in developing a strategy to help manage your pain and the day to day ups and downs of your symptoms. The Graded Exercise Therapy program will help to gently build your fitness, manage pain, and learn the skills to exercise on your own.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and swelling in the joints. This happens because the immune system attacks the lining of the joints causing inflammation and joint damage. RA usually affects the smaller joints, such as those in the hands, feet and wrists, although larger joints such as the hips and knees can also be affected. Exercise is an important part of managing RA.
People with RA who exercise have:
• higher levels of fitness
• better muscle strength and size
• greater ability to do daily tasks
• improved mood and emotional well-being.
Exercise can also help you maintain a healthy body weight and improve the health of your heart and blood vessels. Many people with RA are anxious about exercising. This may be due to fear of causing damage to the joints or the presence of pain. However research shows that people with RA can participate in regular, appropriate exercise without causing joint damage or worsening of symptoms
