Position: Doctor MB.BS, FRACGP, Principal

Dr. Fernando comes to Burgundy Street Family Medical as an experienced General Practitioner, having previously practiced at the Centre Road Medical Centre in Bentleigh East for four years. He obtained his FRACGP through the Australian General Practice Training Program in 2011. Dr. Fernando has further qualifications as a Skin Physician and performs Minor Surgery and Skin Cancer Removal. Furthermore, he has 11 years of experience as a doctor in Australia. Dr. Fernando has previously worked as an Emergency Registrar at Werribee Hospital and General Surgical Registrar at Geelong Hospital.

As a General Practitioner Dr. Fernando specialises in all facets of General Practice, with special interest in Chronic Disease Management, Skin Cancer Checks and Minor Surgery, Hormonal Implant Insertion and Removal, Men’s Health, Travel Medicine and Workcover. He also teaches medical students from Monash University and Melbourne University, and is a supervisor to oversees trained doctors.

Dr. Leel Kodithuwakku

Dr. Leel is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). He comes to Burgundy Street Family Medical as an experienced General Practitioner, having previously worked at Hamilton Family Practice and Centre Road Medical Centre in Bentleigh East.

As a General Practitioner Dr. Leel specialises in all facets of General Practice, with special interest in Mental Health, Chronic Disease Management, Men’s Health and Travel Medicine.

Dr Leel aims to assist people in achieving their best health outcomes, while remaining holistic, safe and supportive.

Dr. Joelene Lau

Position: Doctor, MB.BS., FRACGP, DRANZCOG

Dr. Joelene is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). She obtained her medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Tasmania in 2012, and has worked at a few different hospitals, both urban and rural (including the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women’s Hospital) prior to training as a General Practitioner. Dr. Joelene practices in all aspects of General Practice (Preventative Health, Paediatrics, Travel Medicine etc.) and has done extra training in Women’s Health (Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) and Skin Cancer medicine (Practical Dermoscopy Certificate). She can also perform minor procedures like implanon insertion/ removal, mirena removal, and skin cancer excisions. Outside of work, Dr. Joelene enjoys food, travel, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr Thusitha Welendawe

Position: Doctor MB.BS, FRACGP

Dr Welendawe graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery in Colombo, Sri-Lanka. A year as a resident doctor at a base hospital in Colombo followed before a further three years of training in emergency medicine and surgery at King George Hospital in London. He arrived in Australia in 2006 where his work and training continued in Queensland before he opted to take on two years as a registrar based in rural communities, initially at Stawell, in Maryborough. Victoria.

He has obtained a fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) by completing the Australian GP training programme. He has been working as a GP in Australia for just over ten years. His main interests are chronic disease management and men’s health.

Alexander Si (Podiatrist )

Position: B.Hsc M.Pod Prac, Diploma of FIFA Sports Medicine

Alexander graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Health science and a Masters degree in Podiatric Practice. He has experience in many settings including practicing in rural Australia, Hospital work and worked in Singapore for a year. Alexander likes to take a step wise approach and he enjoys all aspects of podiatry with a passion for biomechanics. As an avid sports person Alexander understands the most effective way to treat foot pains.

Outside of Podiatry Alexander likes to keep active by taking part in numerous sports and enjoys travelling the globe.

Ms. Kai Yi Chui (Christy)

Position: Dietitian

Kai-Yi Chui (Christy) holds a professional membership of Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) and is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (ADP) with a specific interest in the areas of diabetes, weight management, cardiovascular disease and women’s health. She is able to speak fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese. She is also a newspaper columnist, health blogger and SBS radio presenter regarding health and nutrition. Cresilda Fernandez

Position: Registered Nurse

Cresilda is a fully qualified and experienced registered nurse who is passionate and efficient about delivering a holistic approach of care to patients.
She has the ability to make sure that all nursing care delivered to patients at the practice is relevant, of a high standard and effective.
She has five years of experience in Medical Surgical Nursing. Her duties as a Practice Nurse include vaccinations, wound care, health assessments, pathology and assisting doctors with procedures and diagnostic examinations.

Rachel Ann Fernando

Position: Registered Nurse

Rachel is a fully qualified and experienced registered nurse.  She has six years experience in  the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, three years in the General Medical/ Surgical Department, and one year of experience in the Emergency Department. She is able to provide direct care and perform comprehensive health assessments and nursing interventions. Her duties as a Registered Nurse include vaccinations, wound care, health assessments, pathology and assisting doctors with procedures and diagnostic examinations.
